Goal Setting

If you want to set and achieve your goals, don't rely on the 1953 Yale Study which, in fact, never happened. Read, instead, Dr. Steven Kraus' article on Goal Setting at http://cultivategreatness.com/2007/06/03/five-proven-principles-for-effective-goals

Perspectives to Help You With Your Prospects

I was just in my local City Market Store. I picked up their "natural" and generic fish oil supplement. It had 120 mg of DHA. So to get the recommended amount of DHA (recommended by scientific studies) some poor soul would have to take at least 8 per day. There were 60 gel caps per bottle...each bottle therefore contained a 7 and a half day supply. The cost $5.38 per bottle. So to get what you need, you would actually need to buy 4 bottles per month and take 8 pills per day...fish burps and all. This product by the way was not guaranteed for potency and purity. Right above the fish oil tablets was "tahitian noni juice" and "goji juice". I would hate to be a representative of those products in my independent business having to explain why our Noni is better than the grocery store's Noni. Yikes. By the way I did not see any USANA products on the shelves!

More About Fish Oil

If you are not taking fish oil...shame on you! Archives of Internal Medicine, 2005; 165:725-730.

Paper conclusion: Statins and n-3 fatty acids(bio-omega) are the most favorable lipid-lowering interventions with reduced risks of overall cardiac mortality.

In this review statins and omega-3s were equally efficacious for reducing the risk of cardiac mortality.

Crazy for Fish Oil and a Major Correction

In an earlier post I said that either Bio-Omega or Optomega would do as an omega-3 supplement. That is technically true as BOTH are sources of critical omega-3 fatty acids. However the pediatric and cardiology studies for brain development focus specifically on DHA and EPA two specific omega-3s found in Fish Oil. Optomega is not a vegetarian source for these essential fatty acids.

I have spent the last 3 weeks looking at the medical literature and commonly available medical sources. One of the internet sources cites Flax Seed Oil as an excellent source of omega-3s. While it is an excellent source of Omega-3s it is not a source of DHA or EPA.

Our Bio-omega and Optomega are complimentary not competative products. It is both not one or the other. If you are looking for overall heart health and you have an excellent intake of fruits, nuts and vegetables, Bio-omega is a great product for you. All of the cardiology studies are done in patients taking supplements. It is tough to get that 1-3 grams of DHA standardized by diet alone. If you want to "hedge your bets" and make sure, take both.

Wikipedia offers a great section on Omega-3 fatty acids on their vegetarian nutrition page.

Omega-3s and Brain Development and Weight Loss

Many thanks to Susan responding to our February 3rd post regarding Omega-3s and Brain Development. Here is the link to that video, it is awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIgNpsbvcVM

OMG Another video about Fish Oil. This is a must see. Now here is the key. Studies looking at the health effects of Fish Oil patients were taking 1 to 3 grams of DHA per day. So you will have to look at the Nutrition profile on the side of your USANA Bio-omega to figure out how much to take. I take 4 tablets per day.

Here is that video:

Omega 3s and Neonatal/Pediatric Brain Development

Omega 3s have been shown to enhance neonatal/pediatric brain development. The positive impact on brain development has been demonstrated past 4 years of life. Infant formula is approved to have Omega 3s as an additive. This is a bit late in my opinion. The studies show that prenatal administration has a long term positive effect on brain development. The opt-omega or the bio-omega will do. Recommend up to 1gram of DHA per day.

Messages and Emails

These two gems are courtesy of Steve Swartz:
An effective voicemail message you can leave when calling leads:
"Hi, this message is for Ouida Vincent. Hi, Ouida, this is Gwen Field. You had requested some information online about a business from home. I'm just getting back to you to see if what I have is a match. You can reach me at 888-555-1212. That number is 888-555-1212. You can reach me, or I'll try to reach you back. I look forward to speaking with you. Have a great evening."
An effective email to send when someone actually emails you and declines your opportunity after speaking with you:
"Hey, John,
I really appreciate your getting back to me. You're exactly who I thought you were. A true professional. I appreciate your time. If anything changes for you in the future, don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards, ..."

Procosa II

A little product share, courtesy of Glen Varney: Our Procosa II no longer contains Condroitin, which has now been proven to block the effectiveness of the glucosamine. What it does contain is turmeric, which actually opens up the membrane and is why our product is more effective. Using it in conjunction with Biomega makes it even more effective!

More About the Winter Event in Salt Lake

One of the topics discussed at our round table on Saturday morning was the value of duplication and the theory of quality vs. quantity, something we discussed last year with the "45-second Presentation." Rather than becoming a sponsor monster and bringing in as many associates as possible and hoping that some of them will manage to build a business, the philosophy here is to work with no more than four new associates at a time. With each of the new associates, you teach them how to sponsor, then that associate sponsors someone, then you to teach that associate how to teach his new associate how to sponsor someone, then the new associate teaches her new associate how to sponsor and then you have duplication. So when you do retire from actively doing the business yourself, you have created true duplication, and your business will continue to thrive. You continue the process with all four of your new associates, work with each of the four associates that all four of them bring in, plus the four associates that each of those sixteen new associates bring in and stay with this team until all of them can duplicate. Then you can move on to four new associates of your own. And repeat the process. This is an intelligent and proven method for building a successful business that can be a legacy for your family.

Winter Event with Mike, Dan and Pat

Round table breakfast with Mike made the entire trip worth while. The turn out was small for a variety of reasons, none of which seemed important when compared with the opportunity to gain the perspective of one who is retiring from active participation in the industry. Mike has moved his business into a trust to make sure the income for his family is protected. He said it is a great feelng to know that "my family's expenses are cared for so that I can go on to do other things." I also said that "if people knew what I know EVERYONE would be involved in network marketing."

We also talked about seeds and cultivating seeds...ideas. Mike said that unfortunately people have the seed planted in them that network marketing is a bad industry...a scam and then events happen that may or may not nurture that seed.

We also talked about the importance of community. Attending events...staying in touch both upline and downline. Blogs and community chat rooms.

I took notes and will share more as will Gwen.

Funded Proposal Presentation is Ready

Bless those of you who sat through all of the technical difficulties of my funded proposal talk. Well it took me some time to put together but the presentation is now on powerpoint. I have given the presentation to The MDC crew for them to encode the presentation into flash. When I converted it into Quicktime and Flash using my software, the presentations turned out grainy and there were some other problems. The powerpoint works perfectly and you can view it now.

There is audio with the presentation. Just go here the login is massive and success

You will get a directory page. Download all files and place them into a folder on your desktop. Then click the powerpoint presentation which is the first file you will download and it will automatically play the audio files. Voila you will have the presentation!
